The Pacific ocean, warmer than blood and deep turquoise, met the soft, golden sands with a gentle rythm. The waves were small, insignificant, unable to reach the palm trees further up the beach, swaying gently in the midnight breeze. The chorus of frogs was incessant, a croaking harmony to accompany the scene.
Thirty thousand feet above, something was wrong. A passenger plane bound for Florida was experiencing technical difficulties.
"Alright ladies and gentlemen, it's just... A small... technical hitch" stated the disembodied voice of the pilot, unable to keep the apprehension out of the microphone.
Suddenly, a jolt- all aboard felt it. Perplexingly, the feeling that one was no longer traveling in a straight line. Each passenger could see their dismay echoed in the faces of their companions, as a dreaded feeling of moving downwards entered the stomach of everyone aboard the plane. The feeling became worse, crept up into their throats, as a screeching noise made itself heard from outside the plane.
And then the world went black- screams were heard, the lights short circuited, and a rumbling entered the minds of all aboard. A final, gargantuan jolt, and consciousness was lost by all.
2 hours later, a boy, around 16 years old, awoke. His eyes snapped open, and the boy discovered he was still in his seat. However, ahead of him was only one set of seats. Beyond that, all he could see was a stretch of white sand, disappearing into a dense green jungle. The entire cabin was destroyed, the aluminium torn in half. Many seats had blood on them.
The boy couldn't understand why he had been left alone. Feeling shaky, he undid the seatbelt around his waist, and climbed to his feet. He noticed that what was left of the plane was at an angle. He took a couple of ungainly steps towards the gaping mouth of the cabin, and tripped. Landing face down in the sand, he immediately noticed how warm it was.
He clambered to his feet, and put a hand to his forehead. Now able to survey his surroundings without the harsh glare of the sun blinding him. He saw the warm sea, without a hint of land along the horizon. He saw a high peak, rising from the center of the island. The tall palms fringing the beach and the forest looked inviting, the boy was sure the shade under their sizable leaves would provide respite from the sun's endless heat.
